What are Acrobat Ants?
Small ants with a heart-shaped abdomen they tip up when bothered — that is the “acrobat.” Color runs from light brown to black. Workers are all about the same size.
Are they dangerous?
Mostly a nuisance. They can nest in wet or foam-damaged wood. Bite is minor. They do not eat sound framing the way carpenter ants tunnel it.
What causes them?
They follow moisture and insects. Rotten fascia, foam board, and tree-to-house contact give them a highway.
Signs in the house
Trails on siding. Ants pouring from a rotten eave. Sometimes a faint sour smell.
