What are Argentine Ants?
Slender light-to-dark brown ants that build huge supercolonies — hundreds of queens, continuous trails. No sting of note. One colony can blanket a whole block.
Are they dangerous?
Nuisance. They contaminate food. They do not tunnel wood.
What causes them?
Mulch, sidewalk edges, and irrigation keep a supercolony watered. One kitchen spray will not finish it.
Signs in the house
Continuous trails along foundations, patio edges, and into the kitchen.
In Middle Tennessee
Less common here than odorous house ants, but they show up in new subdivisions around Spring Hill, Columbia, Santa Fe, and Franklin.
