What are Phorid Flies?

Small dark “humpbacked” flies. They run more than they fly. Often confused with fruit flies.

Are they dangerous?

Nuisance. A burst of them can mean a broken drain line or a dead animal in a void.

What causes them?

Rotting organic matter in drains, crawl soil, and wall voids.

Signs in the house

Tiny humpbacked flies running across a counter or coming from a floor crack.

In Middle Tennessee

Houses with a damp crawl or a slow floor drain.
