Paper wasp nests and cobwebs are in Shield coverage. Yellowjackets, hornets, and bald-faced hornets are not in standard coverage. Bumble bees, carpenter bees, and solitary ground bees are also outside the standard list. We still take those jobs. We quote them.

What each plan covers

- Premium Shield ($125): cobwebs and wasp nests included, more frequent spring/summer visits, 24-hour arrival.

Nests on the Shield stop
Wasp and hornet nests we can reach are pulled on the membership visit (Basic includes cobwebs and wasp nests once a year). A nest in a high soffit or a wall void is quoted if it needs a ladder day of its own.
- Treat at dusk when they are in the nest when we can.
- Do not knock the nest before we get there.
- Yellow jackets in the ground are a different jab than paper wasps on a porch beam.

Wasp and hornet control in Middle Tennessee
Paper wasps build open, umbrella-shaped nests under eaves, porch ceilings, and shutters. Yellowjackets nest in the ground, in walls, and in hollow spaces, and they get aggressive in late summer. Bald-faced hornets build large gray paper nests in trees and on houses. Dirt daubers build mud tubes on walls and are rarely aggressive.
When nests are worst
Nests start small in spring and grow all summer. By August and September, yellowjacket colonies are at their biggest and most defensive. That is when cookouts, mowing, and yard work lead to stings.
Stay safe
- Do not swat at the nest or spray it from close range.
- Do not plug a hole that yellowjackets fly in and out of. They can chew into the house instead.
- Keep kids and pets away from ground nests. Mark the spot so nobody mows over it.
- If someone is allergic, call 911 for any sting reaction.

Paper wasp nests we can reach are handled on your Shield visit (once a year on request on Basic, included on Advance and Premium). Yellowjackets, hornets, and nests that need a tall ladder or wall work are quoted separately. Send a photo of the nest and its height when you text, so we can bring the right gear.

Wasp questions
Can I knock the nest down myself?
Small paper wasp nests early in spring are less risky, but a big nest in late summer can send a lot of angry wasps your way. Yellowjacket and hornet nests should be left to us.
Why are yellowjackets worse in fall?
Colonies peak in late summer, and the workers look for sugar and protein. That puts them at cookouts, trash cans, and drinks.
Will the nest come back?
Wasps often rebuild in the same sheltered spots. Regular visits on a Shield plan catch new nests early.
